Our Director
Petrina Watkins |
As the director of the Decatur Adventist Learning Center, I am dedicated to working with my team to provide a secure and supportive atmosphere for children to build meaningful relationships with God, their families, and their community. Our approach involves tailoring tasks to each child's developmental stage while ensuring that they feel supported and encouraged throughout their journey. As Vince Gowmon wisely said, “People cannot be forced to learn, but we can create the right conditions for learning to occur.” Therefore, my main objective is to create a warm, welcoming, caring, compassionate, and empathetic environment that cultivates curiosity, creativity, playfulness, and learning. Ashley Montagu's insightful observation was that “Love is the supreme form of communication, and it is the most important factor in developing a child's humanity. For this reason, we believe that love should be the foundation of every early childhood curriculum, with all other subjects growing naturally out of this essential teaching.” Hence, in accordance with this statement and my belief, as cited and highlighted in 1 Corinthians 16:14, I will make a concerted effort to approach every situation and interaction with love. Finally, I strongly believe that effective communication and mutual understanding are essential for success. It's crucial that we share all relevant information with each other in a timely and appropriate manner, which enables us to work together efficiently and make informed decisions. Your support and collaboration are invaluable as we work towards achieving our goals for this year. I am committed to doing my part in this and I hope you are too! Let’s make it a great year! |
